IN THE SYDNEY STINGERS

We're Recruiting!

The Sydney Stingers launched our first two womens' teams in April 2018, and now we're looking for more new members to join us in the upcoming Summer '18-19 season. Whether you want to play competitively or just to learn & train, we'd love to have you with us!

whAT MAKES the sydney stingers different?

2M1A5444-8.jpg

We're a fun, friendly LGBTIQ-inclusive club that welcomes both new and experienced players. We aim to create a supportive and enjoyable environment while we train, play & challenge ourselves.

do I need to be gay, lesbian or lgbtiq to join?

No, not at all - everyone is welcome. But please be aware that our club is an LGBTIQ-friendly environment.

What grades do you play?

We entered two teams in the Water Polo NSW Metropolitan Winter Competition Open Division, with one team in each of the following grades:

  • L3 grade – for intermediate & advanced players with prior experience
  • L5 grade – for players with some prior experience, or beginners with good water skills

Our team make-up for Summer '18-19 is not yet finalised, but we expect that it will include at least one L5 team (for beginner and intermediate players), and one or more L4, L3 or L2 teams (for more experienced players).

Do I need prior experience?

No, but you should be confident in the water. You should be able to swim at least a few laps, and be able to stay afloat (tread water) unassisted.

When and where do you play / train?

Our L3 & below grade teams train on Saturday mornings at Ryde Aquatic Leisure Centre. Training runs for 90 mins each session. A training schedule for our L2 team is being finalised.

Games in the Summer '18-19 season will be held on Wednesday evenings for L3 and below grades, and Saturday Afternoons for the L2 grade. The season runs from mid-October through to late March. Venues are not yet finalised, but are likely to include Ryde Aquatic Leisure Centre, Macquarie University, Auburn Aquatic Centre and the University of Sydney.

what are the FEES & CHARGES for members?

You'll need to pay normal pool entry fees for games and training sessions. Members receive discounted pool entry for games and training at our home pool, Ryde Aquatic Leisure Centre. All other club membership expenses are covered by your membership fee - see below.

I'M KEEN! WHAT DO I DO?

The best way to get into the Sydney Stingers is to attend one of our twice-yearly Water Polo Boot Camps.

Our next boot camp runs for four Saturday mornings this September, and is suitable for all levels. Experienced players are also encouraged to participate as a skills refresher, and in order to get to know our club and your fellow new recruits.

Our Spring 2018 boot camp will run over 3 sessions on Saturday mornings in September, with dates/times as follows:

  • Saturday Sept 8, 10:00 to 12:00pm – Session 1
  • Saturday Sept 15, 10:00 to 12:00pm – Session 2
  • Saturday Sept 22, 10:00 to 12:00pm – Session 3

We'll also hold a number of social events throughout the program. The cost is $50 for the entire course or part thereof, plus pool entry fee of $6.40 each week. Attendance at all sessions is preferred (but not mandatory).

All sessions are held at our home pool, Ryde Aquatic Leisure Centre. There is no obligation to join the club at the end of the course, but we'll be glad to discuss membership with you if you're interested!

MEMBERSHIP FEES

HOW MUCH?

MEMBERSHIP FEES

HOW MUCH?

The Stingers have an annual membership fee covering both summer and winter seasons from 1 September to 31 August each year.

Membership fees cover costs incurred by the club including coaches, pool hire, new equipment and general running costs. Fees are subsided through active fundraising and sponsorship and represent excellent value for money to members – we're cheaper than many of the other Sydney-based water polo clubs!

Membership fees for the 2017/2018 season have remained unchanged, offering the following options:

  • Affiliate membership: $350 / year - Affiliates attend weekly training sessions and are welcome to participate in all club activities (incl. mid-week swim training).
  • Full membership: $500 / year - Full Members attend weekly training sessions, are welcome to participate in all club activities, and are registered to play in the Water Polo NSW Metropolitan competition. Membership includes insurance cover through Water Polo Australia.

Fees quoted on this page are correct as of April 2018, and are subject to change.
