The Sydney Stingers
The Sydney Stingers
Whether you’re brand new to water polo or returning after time away, we’d love to welcome you into the club. We’re a mix of players, volunteers, swimmers, and cheerleaders who believe in showing up for each other—and having fun while we do it.
You don’t need to identify as LGBTQIA+ to join, and you don’t need to be a water polo pro either. What matters most is that you’re open to learning, ready to give it a go, and willing to be part of a team that values inclusion, support, and connection.
Our main pathway into the club is our twice-yearly Water Polo Boot Camp. It’s a four-session intro to the sport, designed for strong swimmers of all genders and experience levels.
You’ll learn the basics of water polo—game play, passing, shooting, defending—all in a fun, low-pressure environment. You’ll also meet our coaches, future teammates, and a whole group of people just like you: curious, brave, and up for something new.
To get the most out of boot camp, you should be able to swim 1km freestyle in 30 minutes or less.
Thinking about joining? Register your interest below and we’ll let you know when the next Boot Camp opens.
We also offer mid-season Trial Memberships for experienced water polo players. If you already have game knowledge and strong swimming ability, this could be a great way to jump in and get started.
Tell us a bit about your background using the form below, and we’ll be in touch to let you know if a Trial Membership could be the right fit.

Our boot camp is a mixed-gender space, and we’re proud to welcome women, transgender, gender-diverse, and intersex participants. You can read our TGD Inclusion Policy, or reach out to our inclusion team at inclusion@sydneystingers.org.au if you have any questions. We’re here to make your experience welcoming and safe from the start.
You don’t need to identify as LGBTQIA+ to be part of boot camp—but you do need to be comfortable in an LGBTQIA+ inclusive environment.

What does it cost?
What does it cost?
We offer three types of membership to suit different levels of involvement—whether you want to train and compete, just stay active socially, or support the club from the sidelines. Each option helps keep our community connected, inclusive, and thriving.
Full Member – $420/year + league and insurance fees
Join a team and compete in either the NSW Metro League or our internal INTRA comp. Full members attend weekly training, participate in competitions, and have access to all-in training and social events. Insurance through Water Polo NSW and Water Polo Australia is included.
Affiliate Member – $160/year + insurance fee
Great for those who want to train and stay connected without competing. Affiliate members can join our all-in training sessions and attend social events. Insurance is included through Water Polo Australia.
Supporter Member – $60/year
For folks who want to stay part of the club community without jumping in the pool. Supporter members are welcome at all social events, but don’t participate in training or competitions.
Membership runs from 1 September to 31 August each year. If you join midway through the year, reduced rates apply.
Your club fees help cover essential costs like pool hire, coaching staff, equipment, and running the club. Thanks to active fundraising and sponsor support, we’re able to keep our fees significantly lower than many other Sydney-based water polo clubs—offering strong value for all our members.
League and insurance fees are handled separately and depend on your level of participation. We know everyone’s financial situation is different, so payment plans are available if you'd prefer to pay in instalments.
Fees listed are current as of September 2024 and may be subject to change.
