IN THE SYDNEY STINGERS

The Sydney Stingers launched our first two womens' teams in the Water Polo NSW Sydney Metro Competition in winter 2018, and had a successful inaugural season including winning the Metro Comp premiership in the L3 grade.

We’re now gearing up for the Summer ‘2018-19 season, where we’ll have three women's teams total: two in the L5 grade and one in the L4 grade.

The Sydney Stingers recruits new players twice a year at our Spring and Autumn water polo boot camps, which are open to both new and experienced players. Keep reading below for details of our next boot camp.

In addition to our boot camps, our teams occasionally have mid-season openings for experienced players. If you have prior experience and would like to discuss options for joining the club, please contact our new recruits team by email at info@sydneystingers.org.au or chat with us on Facebook Messenger.

whAT MAKES the sydney stingers different?

We're a fun, friendly LGBTIQ-inclusive club that welcomes both new and experienced players. We aim to create a supportive and enjoyable environment while we train, play & challenge ourselves.

do I need to be gay, lesbian or lgbtiq to join?

No, not at all - everyone is welcome. But please be aware that our club is an LGBTIQ-friendly environment.

What grades do you play?

For the Summer 2018-19 season, we’re entering three women’s teams in the Water Polo NSW Metropolitan Summer Competition Open Division:

  • One team in the L4 grade – for experienced players with solid water polo skills and intermediate/advanced levels of fitness.

  • Two teams in the L5 grade – for beginners & those working to build their core water polo skills and improve their fitness.

We aim to provide opportunities for all levels of ability, and our team gradings are re-assessed each season. If you’re interested in playing in a higher grade than currently offered, please contact us and let us know.

Do I need prior experience?

Beginners are welcome at our twice-yearly boot camp – no experience necessary! However, you should be able to swim at least a few laps and stay afloat (tread water) unassisted.

When and where do you play / train?

We train on Saturday mornings at Ryde Aquatic Leisure Centre. Training runs for 90 mins each session.

Games in the Summer '18-19 season will be held on Wednesday evenings. The season runs from mid-October through to early April. Venues are not yet finalised, but are likely to include Ryde Aquatic Leisure Centre, Macquarie University, Auburn Aquatic Centre and the University of Sydney.

what are the FEES & CHARGES for members?

You'll need to pay normal pool entry fees for games and training sessions. Members receive discounted pool entry for games and training at our home pool, Ryde Aquatic Leisure Centre. All other club membership expenses are covered by your membership fee - see below.

The best way to get into the Sydney Stingers is to attend one of our twice-yearly Water Polo Boot Camps.

Our next boot camp will be held over four Saturday mornings in April 2019, and is suitable for all levels, including beginners. Experienced players are also encouraged to participate as a skills refresher, and in order to get to know our club and your fellow new recruits.

The cost is $50 for the entire course or part thereof, plus pool entry fee of $6.40 each week. Attendance at all sessions is preferred (but not mandatory).

All sessions are held at our home pool, Ryde Aquatic Leisure Centre. There is no obligation to join the club at the end of the course, but we'll be glad to discuss membership with you if you're interested.

MEMBERSHIP FEES

HOW MUCH?

MEMBERSHIP FEES

HOW MUCH?

The Stingers have an annual membership fee covering both summer and winter seasons from 1 September to 31 August each year.

Membership fees cover costs incurred by the club including coaches, pool hire, new equipment and general running costs. Fees are subsided through active fundraising and sponsorship and represent excellent value for money to members – we're cheaper than many of the other Sydney-based water polo clubs!

Membership fees for the 2017/2018 season have remained unchanged, offering the following options:

  • Affiliate membership: $350 / year - Affiliates attend weekly training sessions and are welcome to participate in all club activities (incl. mid-week swim training).
  • Full membership: $500 / year - Full Members attend weekly training sessions, are welcome to participate in all club activities, and are registered to play in the Water Polo NSW Metropolitan competition. Membership includes insurance cover through Water Polo Australia.

Fees quoted on this page are correct as of April 2018, and are subject to change.
